Terms of service

Kiiwi is a macOS app made by Tamil Iniyan, an individual developer based in Bengaluru, India. Buying it means agreeing to what follows. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
1. What you are buying
A one-time licence to use Kiiwi on two of your Macs. There is no subscription, no account, no recurring charge and no tiers: there is one version of the app and one price.
- $4.99 one-time, for up to 2 Macs
Prices are in US dollars. Tax may be added at checkout depending on where you are, and is shown before you pay.
2. Your licence
The licence is personal and non-exclusive. You may install and activate Kiiwi on two Macs, including Macs you own personally and ones you use for work. The licence is for your own machines: you may not resell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the app or your licence key, or share the key with other people.
Each purchase issues one licence key with two activations. You paste the same key on each Mac. The activation count is held by our payment provider, so a key that has used both will refuse a third until one is freed.
Moving a key to a different Mac
Open Kiiwi on the Mac you are leaving, go to Settings → General and choose Deactivate This Mac. The seat returns to your key immediately and you can use it on the new machine. If the old Mac is already gone, wiped or sold, email support and the seat is freed by hand.
3. Activation, and the licence check
Kiiwi will not run unlicensed, so it checks that its licence is still valid: when you activate, each time it launches, and once a day while it is running. Each check sends your licence key, the id of the seat this Mac holds, a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware identifier and the app version to our activation endpoint. Nothing else leaves your Mac, and what you type never does. See the privacy policy for the detail.
The check is what makes two Macs mean two Macs. It is also why deactivating a Mac takes effect on that machine: its seat stops being valid.
If your Mac is offline, Kiiwi keeps working for 14 days on the last successful check, then asks for a connection once before it will run again. A licence is only dropped when the server gives a definite answer that it is no longer valid, never because a network request failed.
4. Payment and the merchant of record
Checkout is handled by Dodo Payments, who act as the merchant of record for the sale. They collect payment and billing information, handle applicable taxes, and appear as the seller on your card statement and receipt. Their buyer terms and privacy policy apply to that part of the transaction.
5. Refunds
14 days, no reason needed. The refund and cancellation policy is the full version and forms part of these terms.
6. Updates and support
Updates for the current major version are included, with no time limit attached and no upgrade fee inside it. If a future version is ever a separate paid product, that will be said plainly before you buy it, not decided after.
One person builds Kiiwi and answers its email. Support is a real reply from me, usually within a day or so, and not a ticket queue with a target time.
7. What is not promised
Kiiwi is provided as it is. It plays audio in response to keystrokes; it is not medical, safety or financial software, and nothing about it should be depended on for anything critical. To the extent the law allows, liability is limited to what you paid for the licence.
Kiiwi needs macOS Sonoma 14.0 or later and Accessibility permission to hear keystrokes system-wide. If a future macOS release changes how that permission works, the app will be updated where that is possible, but compatibility with unreleased operating systems cannot be guaranteed in advance.
8. Acceptable use
Do not use Kiiwi to break the law, and do not attempt to patch out, bypass or redistribute the licence check. The check exists so that one person can keep building this instead of going to work somewhere else.
9. Third-party sound recordings
Kiiwi ships switch recordings from named community sources under their own licences, credited in the app bundle and in the project's notices. Your licence covers using them inside Kiiwi. It does not transfer any rights to extract or redistribute the recordings themselves.
10. Changes and governing law
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and a purchase is governed by the version in force when it was made. These terms are governed by the laws of India.
